12 September 2008

Get the DVD to your computer:
1. Handbrake is a free and open-source software application that’s available for Mac, Windows and Linux. Get the latest version at Handbrake.fr.
2. Lifehacker has created an app that rips DVDs to your hard drive in one step. DVD Rip can be downloaded from Lifehacker.com.
3. The free application DVD43 is capable of decrypting DVDs on the fly. Start the application and insert the DVD you want to copy. DVD43 does the rest.

Play the DVD on your computer:
1. Mac users can use Mac OS X’s built-in DVD Player app. Just launch the app and go to the File menu. Choose “Mount DVD Media” (Command-O) and navigate to the VIDEO_TS folder of the movie you just ripped.
2. VLC is a free and open-source software player that can handle most any video file. Download here.
3. Mplayer is another free option for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux.
