Every year IBM releases a “Next Five in Five” list, a list of innovations that “have the potential to change the way people work, live and play over the next five years”. In this third such list, the future is about a talking web and houses that power themselves.

1. Energy saving solar technology will be built into asphalt, paint and windows:
Just about every part of regular architecture will work to conserve energy that will be used to power everything

2. You will have a crystal ball for your health:
Based on DNA research you should be able to predict what ailments could get the better of you and how to prevent them

3. You will talk to the Web… and the Web will talk back:
Various devices on your internet device will remove the needs for a mouse or even looking at the screen

4. You will have your own digital shopping assistants:
Online technology and a variety of devices will assist with your shopping not just on the internet but in the real-world too

5. Forgetting will become a distant memory:
Mainly because remembering everyday things will be done by smart assistants and gadgets and no longer by the human brain

After several years of perceived calm India will figure again on the list of the world’s most dangerous places.

From obvious disaster zones like Pakistan and Iraq to surprise entries like South Africa and Jamaica these are the places to plan your vacation if you’re the adventurous type:

As the technology required to create a physical link between Earth and outer space becomes closer to a reality, discussions of next-generation space exploration have been given new life.

Japan announced recently that it was researching plans to build a space elevator – a link to space that could transport cargo and even tourists!

Modern plans for a space elevator rely on a cable being stretched between a satellite and a platform on Earth along which vehicles could travel.

Of course the super-strong cable or ‘ribbon’ that will hold everything together still needs to be invented. But scientists say they need less five years to do that!
